World Radio Day 2026 falls on February 13, today, celebrating radio's enduring role in information, education, and connection worldwide.

Date and History

UNESCO proclaimed World Radio Day in 2011, with the UN General Assembly adopting it in 2012.  

The date honors the UN Radio's establishment on February 13, 1946.  

This marks the 15th annual observance since its first celebration in 2012.

2026 Theme

The theme is "Radio and Artificial Intelligence," exploring AI's benefits for broadcasters like e-learning delivery and content enhancement.  

UNESCO invites reflection on AI reshaping production without replacing human elements.

Purpose and Impact

It raises awareness of radio's reach, especially in remote areas, and promotes cooperation among stations.  

Radio remains vital for news, disaster response, and cultural exchange.


What events are planned for World Radio Day 2026


World Radio Day 2026 is celebrated today, February 13, with events worldwide focusing on the theme "Radio and Artificial Intelligence." Key planned activities include special broadcasts, training sessions, and local conclaves.

Global Highlights

Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is hosting live online Zoom training sessions demonstrating AI-enabled e-learning via digital radio broadcasts.  

Global demonstration broadcasts across five continents showcase DRM-based educational services using AI-enhanced content.  

UNESCO encourages radio stations to register events on their interactive map for inclusion in the official report.

India-Specific Events

All India Radio (AIR) Raipur, with UNESCO, organizes the World Radio Day Conclave 2026, emphasizing AI's role in radio while preserving human communication.  

Pune hosted discussions and a video screening at Firodia Hall on radio's digital evolution.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted radio's trusted voice and invited ideas for his Mann Ki Baat program.
